The higher clocked quad core I5 would perform best. Games benefit from having a high clockspeed. Both architectures are quad core but the I7 2.5ghz will perform slight worse then the I5 at 3.1.

The i5 computer would have only 8gb ram, but the i7 would have 16. Does that majorly alter your recommendation? Thanks
The i5 will do better, i7 strength comes from multicore work (which games largely are not). i7 have 4 physical cores and 4 virtual or hyperthread cores as Intel likes to call them.
