Games crashing/freezing on map loading in multiple games

Hello all,

New here but I'm at the end of my tether and have tried everything I can think of.

In Guild Wars 2 particularly, though have found it also happens in CS:GO, whenever the game loads something (such as a map change) it freezes. If I tab out and back in, the game will suddenly unfreeze.

The games crash entirely if I try and change the resolution, though in GW2 if I change to windowed mode and then back to a full screen resolution it works.

I get this error from GW2:

And CS:GO Hasn't actually crashed but it has frozen.

Things I have tried so far:

- Entirely installing graphics drivers using Display Driver Uninstaller
- Checking my network routes
- Re-installing drivers
- Updating Graphics drivers for both integrated graphics and dedicated graphics.
- Re-installing both games
- Checking GPU running correctly with GPU-Z
- Updating DirectX (didn't need updating) as per the error message.
- Virus and Malware scans
- Windows update
- Disabling Startup programs
- And quite a lot more...

I understand there is issues with DirectX9 and Windows 10 with legacy games, which is what GW2 is running on. But I haven't got far with what to do about this information because as far as I can tell GW2 is using the correct DLLs

I feel like I am missing something so feel free to ask more information.

EDIT:

This happened out of nowhere after a few weeks of not playing either game.
I have previously been able to play both of these games just fine on my laptop. I have checked my windows updates and have found nothing pertaining to graphics.

Solution
Well, browsing the forums, i have found something:

There is currently no fix but to wait and see if they will push out a patch, because I see you tryed reinstalling drivers, and it didn't work. Just wait it out :D

Hello, Thanks for your reply.

Yes I have previously been able to play it just fine on the current laptop I have running Windows 10.

My exact laptop: Gigabyte P37X (first model)

If you were asking due to direct X issues with Windows 10 I have already tried updating the previous 9.0c via the Web installer and it just says already up to date/newer version installed. Also tried a clean reinstall but it's not possible with Direct X 12.

The only thing I can think of that's changed is maybe a windows update but I can't see any directX or any graphics updates which may have caused the issue.

The game itself has also had a few updates but I can't be sure about this affecting it.

One more thing I've discovered and screenshots will be added shortly (in-game right now) is that some textures in shaded areas are missing as well as water textures, which just shows huge pixelated blue and green squares instead.

I was thinking maybe this is a shader issue? Since these areas are shaded and I know water is shader-related.
Hope this helps.

It's more GW2 that I need the solution for since CS:GO seems to have fixed itself for now.

Also please see the edit I made to my previous post as I think you may have replied before I committed the change, thanks.

My full specs:

Proc: i7-4720HQ
Mem: DDR3L 16GB
Graphics: GTX 980m
And it's running from an SSD but that shouldn't make a difference I don't think.

Here are the images for the issue in Guild Wars 2:

I get this issue as well as the freezing during map loads. I am thinking it could be related to a game update as my friend is getting the tecture issues similar to me and occasional map load issues but not as badly.

Thanks for your help!

No it's not fixed I was just thanking you :) . CS:GO stopped having the issue a few days ago but Guild Wars 2 remains an issue. Those screenshots were from just a few minutes ago and the map loading issue is still a problem. I am in contact with the Guild Wars 2 Support people but they are mostly offering pretty generic solutions (graphics drivers and stuff like disabling startup programs.. for whatever reason)

Any further help would be appreciated.

Much appreciated. Will continue with GW2 Support too. As I say it hasnt been an issue previously so it's either a Win 10 update (unlikely because I cant see anything) or a GW2 update (which there have been many of lately)

GW2 Support just suggested running in compatibility mode (after about 2 weeks of back and forth support) and it has actually seemingly stopped the issue from happening, the only problem is, it is a temporary fix and the game doesn't run as well when it is in compatibility mode.

Thanks a lot for your assistance and perseverance! Really appreciated.
