Samsung SM951 256GB NVMe vs Samsung 950 Pro NVMe 256GB Witch one is the best?

Solution
^ I agree with both @rhysiam and @geekwad. If you had to choose between the Samsung SM951 or 950 Pro, then get the 950 Pro. But as someone who owns both the 950 Pro and the Intel 750, you probably won't notice the speed improvement over a Samsung 850 EVO. It's worth it to me to have NVMe SSD's for my VMware lab, but I honestly don't notice improvement in my bootup times or my game loading times over a standard SATA SSD. Some people do report improvement, but I've yet to see it. It's mainly cool if you want the latest technology and bragging rights to your friends.

If you opt for the 850 EVO, you could always get the M.2 form factor instead of the 2.5". It's the same performance, but it'll make your build neater. The M.2 form...
500GB 850 EVO is the best pick. You don't need an nvme ssd for a gaming rig. While those ssds have far more potential performance, they need really intensive workloads to actually push them hard enough to enable them to pull away for the (already plenty fast) mainstream SSDs like the EVO. It's like buying a top end sports car to drive around New York City. Sure if you're on a race track those cars are way faster, but if they're always waiting on traffic lights or other cars, they're never able to go any faster.

Get an EVO either in a larger size (allows you to put more games in it), or pocket your money or put it into more important components, GPU, CPU, etc.

Admirable
The 951 was released before the 950pro, and the 950pro is definitely the easier of the two to implement (the 951 was an OEM part that did eventually find its way to consumer outlets......but it wasn't meant for that).

I do agree with rhysiam though, unless you push them with professional workloads, the performance is basically lost. It's not like the jump most people experienced going from HDD's to SSD's for the first time......there is no wow factor. If you work with massive files often, it's great, but otherwise the larger size EVO's, or two 256Gb EVO's (one for OS, the other for games?) would be best.

The M.2 form factor is only available up to the 512 GB capacity, but it'll be released in the 1 TB capacity sometime this year for both the 850 EVO and 950 Pro.
