Hi! I have an IDE Hard Drive that I use in playing PS2 games on my old console. I also bought a USB to IDE/SATA Adapter for this purpose, so I can transfer the said games to the HDD via my desktop.

However, just this day I found out that the external power adapter is not working, so I have no way to power up the IDE hard drive.

Is it possible for me to access the hard drive if I connect it through usb while it is powered by the desktop's power supply? Thanks!

Thanks for the replies! But what I meant was will the HDD function normally if I would use the CPU's power supply to power it up and use the USB to access the files?

Yes, it should work like that. As matter of fact I'm using an adapter like that.

Oh i shouldnt have said SATA power, forgot you were on IDE.
You mean the 4pin MOLEX cable from PSU. yes that what i mean when i said it should work. unless the adapter pulls its power from its now broken power source instead of power from the USB. I doubt it though.

yes it should work however as i said i wouldnt want to keep that configuration going for too long. Power it up get the drives orr and throw the drive away or get a new adapter.

Its stated in the very first post.
