I'm looking for clarification, I have Verizon dsl, my internet connection kept dropping off, one of the their techs said to use cat5e or 6 cable from the interface box to the modem/router, he said use the twisted pair wires together just be consistant with colors at each end, another Verizon tech said no, you have to separate the wires and use only one strand of the pair just regular cat3 phone cable, can you tell me which one is correct, thank you

It doesn't matter.

twister pairs benefits DIFFERENTIAL signals, got a + and - in addition to ground. The signal on a home DSL is not a differential signal, use any pair. In the dawn of DSL, I remember my first vendor re-wired this with a CAT5, but after that nobody did it anymore, I figure they found out it doesn't really do anything, for that short run and all.

If you are able to, go for it, but really, I hope ur not expecting sudden miracles.

ISP always blaming the customer, so they don't have to do anything. If the wiring is difficult, I would just temporarily run a long CAT5 patch cord and if it does anything before spending the effort opening up wall.
