While installing my new GTX 960, my system starts to boot up. Then all of my fans turn on (PSU, CPU cooling, and the 2 for the GPU) I see the "Gateway" BIOS screen then I get one short beep from my internal speaker then the screen on my monitor goes to a blinking cursor in the top left hand corner. The Graphics card fans shut down at this point.

System Info:
Operating System:Windows 10 Home 64-bit (10.0, Build 10586)(10586.th2_release.160104-1513)

Things I have done/tried prior to this posting:
Uninstalled old Graphics Drivers, reset Graphics card, Looked in BIOS for a way to disable integrated Graphics but could not find one(but I uninstalled from system device manager).
I had a Radeon HD 6770 card installed prior to this that the fan blades and bearings went bad after 5 years (go figure) so I don't believe that the PCI slot has gone bad. All of my drivers seem to be up to date. I get the feeling that it is a Power issue but the Card only requires a 400w PSU. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

I'm still going with the gateway proprietary bios and board that's just how they are , but you never know lot of guys with custom builds/ boards had to wait on a bios update for there 900 cards to work as well look uo 900 cards on like older chipsets like the z68 where the cards failed to work on some of them ..

also the dell xps [8700] had to wait on a new bios [A-10] that made the 900 cards compatible on them as well they did not work on them until the a-10 bios ?? these newer cards are not so plug and play as use to be ..

good luck

aftermarket cards can be of issue with some modles of prebuilt computers ? I never recommend doing so unless you know for sure the upgrade is proven to work ??

hopefully you don't fall in to this deal and can resolve

some models of store bought computers [dell.hp,acer,ect..] may come with a ''locked or fixed'' bios and may not allow you to change certain hardware as a video card.. this is done to protect them from undue warranty claims and refunds .this is not done to hurt you but to protect them. you really need to see if that upgrade has been proven to work in your model first before you invest money in it .. there are a lot of these threads here at toms to look at some models will allow upgrades and some dont.. and a lot of guys here say ya ya ya when is really no no no...it would be sad you spent $200 on a card that wount post after you installed it as most find out. then get told its your psu and you spend more and end up right back where you are now, but its up to you good luck..

you got to know the the boards in these computers are not like the ones we use to do custom builds witch are open to upgrading with in the boards compatibly . the bios is custom made for there design and just for the parts they authorize to be used on there computers there only guaranteed to work as is out of the box as you bought it ,..

also these boards do not have to meet atx standards and there pci-e slot power may not do the required 75w needed for most higher end cards and can be limited to say 45 or 60w that is all thats needed with the low end factory oem cards that it may of shipped with

google around your model and card and see if anybody has did this upgrade and got it to work or a work a round to make it ??

Prior Graphics card required a 500w PSU and that worked fine for years. Power is coming from the PSU not the mobo, or am I incorrect in that assumption. Either way I did not have any troubles installing the Radeon 6770 I just plugged it in and I was off to the races. I have continued to read up on this, would disabling the secure boot make a difference or would you recommend this? Should I just go get a more powerful PSU and try it? (keeping in mind return policies and time frames for doing so if it doesn't make a difference.) My other option is to get a lesser card but with my IPIMB-AR mobo I can't find anywhere online to find compatible GPUs and reading through these forums I find I am not the only one not able to do so.

There should absolutely no reason why you can't upgrade to a new graphics card. The only thing that might be preventing you to do this is the so called "secured boot" you just mentioned:

http://nvidia.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/3156/~/when-installing-an-after-market-graphics-card-into-a-certified-windows-8-pc

Nevertheless..... For a card like yours, if you get it to work or not, you still need to upgrade that power supply no matter what. A better power supply will also take on your future upgrades better. This your decision though. If you decide to get a new power supply, pick from this list, no less that tier 2:

http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/id-2547993/psu-tier-list.html

Or take the one I suggested before.

I wouldn't downgrade from GTX 960 just because I can't get it to work with an OEM motherboard. There are tons of LGA 1155 motherboards for your i3-2120 at affordable prices on eBay.
