Hi. Here is the situation.

I have an HP m7357c (Asus P5LP-LE motherboard) running WinXP. The motherboard has gotten flaky (random system freezes).

I cannot replace the system as a whole because there is some software on it that cannot be upgraded or replaced (unless some kind soul would like to donate $6,000 or so to the cause).

I don't mind replacing the motherboard but not sure which one to get. All current reviews, etc., are all yacking about Win8 and WinX support. I just want to unplug old motherboard, plug in new motherboard, power up, install drivers as needed, and keep going.

Essentially, I just need a basic mobo with XP 32-Bit support (and i7? may as well go for it LOL). I would like to get one with top ratings, obviously.

Thanks in advance for constructive advice.

Are you using the preinstalled Windows XP license that came with the system or have you installed another? Major OEMs like HP tie their preinstalled Windows licence to the CPU/MB, upgrading either can require either a reinstall of the OS or the purchase of a new license and install media, sourcing either for XP may be a problem.

Suggestions:
Contact HP support, they may point you to a replacement motherboard or to someone who can install one for you.
Check the HP support forums, maybe post a request there for help, as with all major OEMs there's a quite large community that can help.
Look through E-bay or Craiglist, either for a replacement MB or even a whole system you can cannibalise.
If you have install media for your software maybe...

You have an Intel 945G motherboard, which is a year 2005 model.
Part No. P5L-MX

If you are interested, Intel no longer supports Windows XP after the Series 7 chipset.

You may be able to get another 945G motherboard to boot up from your hard drive. It sounds like the only operating system you own is tied to an old OEM HP product.

If you bought an Intel LGA 1155 motherboard, which uses XP, you sound like you don't have the XP operating system software to install. That would be too big of a hardware change to expect to boot up from a Intel 945G motherboard.
