I have a r9 270x
i7 4790k
2 tb hdd
16 gb ram

witcher 3 is playing at 40fps, fallout ranges from 60-35 fps, not constant..why am i getting such low fps? is it a graphics card issue? If i get the gtx 980 will that help me? I really dont know what the issue could be. thank you

Yes, the gtx 980 will definitely improve performance

not the HDD or SSD, you just need to upgrade the Video card. 980 will definitely improve your fps, what kind of monitor are you gaming on? resolution? you might be happy with a 970, or probably the 390. Both around the same price range (excluding the 390x of course).

Hmmnn, 980 it's a great card but it's a lot of money for 1080p, the 970 will give you what you need. Sorry to hear about your Radeon experience, but just know that they have turned around and refreshed their architecture and drivers. For the price, the 390 is the better of the two. But yes, long story short, get the 970. If I was you I would go
Gigabyte G1---->EVGA FTW+ 2.0+---->MSI Gaming 4 in that order and overclok. I have a MSI 970 and I'm very happy!

Both cards are great, but if I had to choose I go for the MSI. Performance are almost identical, edge goes to EVGA but there has been many complaints about their fans. My buddy hasn't had any issues with his but the word is out there. That's a lot of money to gamble on a card. MSI always runs much cooler.

OP< i highly recommend getting the 980 if you have the budget for it. The reason being, whilst a 970 will serve you very very well, it will still not be able to max out 60 FPS on the upcoming games. It cannot max out the current Fallout 4 title at 60 FPS. If you want to make sure you have the perfect experience and you wish to add a crap ton of high res mods and other addons, a 980 will ensure you do not lag behind, the 970 in this case will show it's weakness.
