I'm looking at the Z97-PRO and Z97-A MOBO. I am not big into computer gaming as of right now, but may get there in a year or so. I am a computer science major and am needing some better than the laptop I am using. What would some of you recommend? I am open to other suggestions, and I don't want to spend more than $170 on a motherboard right now

The ASUS Z97-PRO and Z97-A are almost identical. The Z97-PRO has better onboard audio, can run 3-way CrossFireX, and has another USB 3 header built in. The Z97-A can only run up to two video cards, while the Z97-PRO can run up to 2 NVIDIA cards or 3 AMD cards.

The Z97-A does have 2 PCI slots, if you need them. I usually opt for the Z97-A, because it is cheaper and many people that I know use a Creative Sound Blaster E1 or USB speakers like the Bose Companion series, so the on board audio does not matter.
