So basically I want to upgrade my current PC setup, but I'm new to this whole thing (obviously). So I was looking to make sure everything will be compatible, and ACTUALLY start once I put it all together, or if it will even fit together.

My current setup is the Optiplex Mini Tower with the Intel duo core E8400 processor, AMD Radeon HD 5450 Graphics card, The 0m858n Motherboard that came with the tower, and the psu is a 305W Standard Power Supply; 255W 88% Efficient Power Supply, ENERGY STAR 5.0 compliant, Active PFC thing. And the case is the same.

What I want to put in it:
Graphics card: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814121855
CPU:http://ark.intel.com/products/90729/Intel-Core-i3-6100-Processor-3M-Cache-3_70-GHz
Motherboard:http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813157578

And I'll be getting some DDR3 from my friend, so I wont need to worry about that.
And I'm not sure if I will need to get a new case or power supply, like I said, I'm new to the whole thing. :/
I basically just want to make sure everything will work and not blow up in my face, let me know if you need any more information involving anything, I'm sure I left some important stuff out. Any advice is much appreciated. :D

Solution
First major issue I found is that your new CPU and new motherboard are incompatible. The CPU is intel and the motherboard has an AMD chipset. Take a look here for some that should be compatible, just be sure you watch out for the ones that only support DDR4 unless you're planning on buying new RAM as well.

Also, if you are using the old mini tower case, that will most likely not fit a full size graphics card. The PCI slot covers on the card, and the card itself, will just be too wide.

Lastly, your power supply is probably too weak. From the research I did, you'll probably want at least a 400w power supply. You can even go a little higher to be on the safe side, and it will give you some headroom for upgrades in the future. I'd...

I'd even recommend a 500w power supply from a reputable company, as you can find a good one for $50-$60

Hope this helps!

Ohh okay, yeah I would have totally screwed myself there. I didnt actually even know the socket type was a thing until you mentioned it. So this one should be alright? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813132646

And I was worried about that, I have a few extra cases lying around that will probably/hopefully work.

For some reason I was thinking that it was 300w? I guess my memory isnt what it used to be. : P I think this power supply should probably be sufficient http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817438016
Thank you for all of your help!

That motherboard uses DDR4 RAM, not DDR3, but if you don't mind buying a stick of RAM to go with it, it should work nicely. As for the power supply, EVGA is a good company, and I'd say what you found is a pretty good value.
