The short:
Approximate Purchase Date: within 3 months, sooner the better
Budget Range: $1000 tops, looking for around $800
System Usage: gaming, web surfing, video watching, simple music editing
Location: Southern California
Parts Preferences: none, as long as it's reliable
Overclocking: Maybe in the future, I feel no need for it now
Monitor Resolution: 1920 x 1080 is fine
The build:
Case ($40) NZXT Phantom 240 Mid Tower Chassis
Processor ($128) Intel Core i3-6100
Cooling ($60) Corsair Hydro Series H55 Quiet Edition
Memory ($60) Kingston HyperX Fury DDR4 2666 (8GB)
Video ($230) AMD Radeon R9 380 4GB
Motherboard ($100) AsRock Z170M Pro4S
Power Supply ($40) EVGA 500W 80PLUS Certified ATX12V/EPS12V
Primary Hard Drive ($84) Crucial BX100 250GB
Secondary Hard Drive ($55) Western Digital Blue HDD (1TB)
Optical Driver ($0) none
As for OS, should I just buy Windows 10 @ $100? It seems silly to say it's a $800 computer when really one needs to put a total of $900 to make it function.
The long:
I'm a first time computer builder and would like advice before I start buying parts. After much research, I came up with this. Games that I am looking to play include Starcraft 2 and Witcher 3, along with games that will come out in years to come. (I don't need all the games to run on ultra-high settings, but at least run well).
I'm flexible with price for the most part, but I am also a very frugal buyer. Let me know if you think this rig is well priced and if the parts are compatible. Also, do you think it will be a lasting device that I will be able to upgrade in the future? Any thoughts on optimization? Ways to save?
Thanks!
