I have a Toshiba satellite c55-b5362.
The user manual states I have "4GB DDR3L 1600 MHz (not user upgradable) ... 2 memory slots"

I have found on the forums that the ram is indeed upgradable, however the 16 GB (2x8 GB) upgrades listed on crucial.com for this device are out of stock.

So, on amazon I found the following for 30% less, and am wondering if it is compatible. Here is a link (it's 2x8 GB DDR3L 1600MHz) -
http://www.amazon.com/Crucial-DDR3L-1600-SODIMM-Memory-CT2K8G3S160BM/dp/B008LTBJFW/

I have also been considering this from kingston http://www.amazon.com/Kingston-Technology-1600MHz-PC3-12800-KVR16LS11/dp/B00CQ35HBQ/

If neither of these are compatible, could you tell me what exactly is required to find compatible ram? Thanks!

Maybe it says not user upgradable because that specific laptop can only handle 4GB of RAM, try to do some research and see what the max RAM that it can handle, I believe most laptops have a lower limitation compared to a desktop. If you find that it can hold the 16GB of RAM you want, then I think the RAM kit you have found should be compatible.

This has me worried -- I've done a bit of searching and come up empty. Anyone know a good place for finding this (since the manual is useless)? I am assuming that since crucial's scan says a 16 GB kit is compatible that it can handle it...

For anyone who is wondering the same, I bought the kingston ram (x2), installed it and it works great. went from 4 to 16 GB!
the specs on the ram --
(Kingston Technology 8GB 1600MHz DDR3L (PC3-12800) 1.35V Non-ECC CL11 SODIMM Intel Laptop Memory KVR16LS11/8)
