Okay guys so this happened just last night and I noticed it in PayDay 2, turned PC off and next morning (now) problem still persisting.
The problem is, my recently bought MSI GTX 980 is performing so bad. Yesterday, I could play Dying Light on max settings at around 70fps, now I get max 30fps. PayDay 2 runs at 40fps on max, when it should be in the 3 digits. I literally have no idea what went wrong. No overclocking done on it btw. I ran dxdiag, no problems. I'm also on the latest GeForce drivers. I have Dying Light open right now and OpenHardwareMonitor running, showing me:
GPU Core = 405MHz, GPU Mem Controller = 73%, GPU Video Engine = 26% and GPU memory = 76.6%.
Literally have no idea what is going on with my card. Please post possible fixes / suggestions, thanks in advance!

Forgot to add: I get an error sometimes when starting games that dissapears saying my display drivers had stopped working and recovered?? I am on Windows 10 64bit.

I suspect the gpu mate, i know it sucks but it is looking like it.

Can try get the safe mode selection up select best known configuration.

Disable automatic device driver updates (Theres a stickie on it in Win10 forums) but doubt Microsoft would have screwed with your gpu anyway but its something to try doing.

Run DDU afterwards, run the driver install as Administrator - no harm in disabling UAC before using DDU and GPU drivers.

When drivers are reinstalled, do your usual routine of selecting prefer maximum performance, single monitor etc. Even power plan options in Win10 to full bore.

Thats all you can do really software side of things.

Run MSI Afterburner to monitor your gpu: http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/353686-33-program-load-temp-gaming More general info here if you want it.
