Hi, I am planning on buying Dell 7559, and I want to get the skylake quad core i7 but I am afraid that it will release more heat than the skylake quad core i5 and I am afraid that it will thermal throttles. They have the same TDP of 45 watts. What do you guys think, should I get the i5 or the i7 ?

Solution
Thermal throttling shouldn't be a problem as long as you don't don't run heavy processes while you have the laptop on your lap / on your bed for example.

The thing is; do you really need an i7? but that's up to yourself to decide. An i5 is pretty good enough for most tasks and gaming, while an i7 will come in handy when you do things like video rendering, which is very cpu-intensive.

Thanks man for the answer, I want it to be future proof for the next 2-3 years, I will use it mostly for gaming and browsing, and it has a higher clock speed than the i5, and the price difference is about $100. Do you think its worth it?

For gaming and browsing, I would say no.
There are only a few games that benefit from the extra threads and the higher clockspeed the i7 gives you. these are games like planetside 2, this is because there are sometimes more than 200 players within a small field. For gaming, the thing that will limit you is going to be your graphics card. ofcourse browsing will work with both just fine aswell.

So, for the things you're gonna be using the laptop for, the extra $100 aren't worth it. You'll better off saving your money.
