Gtx 980 vs Gtx 970

I ama building my first gaming PC ever because I am just fed up of stupid consoles my PC will cost around 1300$ I have two options one with an i5 one with an i7.

1st Option:
Asus z97 pro gamer
I7 4790k
Stock cooler
Msi GTX 970
RM850 PSU
1tb HDD
Corsair 100r case
16gb RAM Ddr3

2nd Option:
Asus z170a
I5 6600k
CM Hyper 212 evo
Zotac GTX 980 AMP!
RM850 PSU
1tb HDD
Corsair 100r case
8gb ddr4

PS I will use a 144hz monitor

For Gaming, Go for the stronger card setup , and the 6600k is perfect for gaming , If you were into heavy video editing I would have chosen the first one , because of the 4 virtual cares on the 4790k.

2nd Option:
Asus z170a
I5 6600k
CM Hyper 212 evo
Zotac GTX 980 AMP!
RM850 PSU
1tb HDD
Corsair 100r case
8gb ddr4

But would go to 16gb on the memory , some recent releases are recommending more than 8gb.

Both are nice setups , Congrats on the fine choices. :D
