My cpu idles in the 50s and occasionally jumps to the 60s. When I play games it heats up to 80+. After about 5 hours of gaming and or working it eventually gets to 80. Is this fine?

Specs- amd athlon quad core
sapphire vapor x r9
gigabyte mobo
evga 500 w

What's the need of knowing his specs? His idle temp is not normal to begin with, and he is also getting 80C on load.

Take out the cooler, check if the fan is working properly, meaning it's not making any weird and loud noises.

Clean the fan and the heatsink if they are covered in dust, remove old thermal paste with isopropyl alcohol from the CPU and the heatsink, apply new thermal paste and mount everything back. Make sure the heatsink is properly seated.

What chip? freq it is running and voltage?

There are a lot of amd athlon quad core out there and the reason they need to know your specs is to help you as others have said maybe change your thermal past on cpu blow the dirt and dust out that will help greatly and maybe if your using the factory heatsink I suspect buy a after market version .
