I am looking to overclock my CPU, the rest of my system specs are
i5-4670K CPU
Corsair H80i Liquid CPU cooler
EVGA GEFORCE GTX 770 SC 2GB GPU
Gigabyte Z97X-UD5H Motherboard
EVGA 750G2 Supernova PSU
16 gigs of crucial ram
Then i have 2 WD 1TB drives and 1 250GB SSD

I have never overclocked anything before but i do know a decent amount on computers. I was wondering if it would be worth overclocking this CPU or just upgrading to an i7 if so would you guys be able to recommend some? and how i would go about overclocking my CPU.
I mainly use my computer for gaming and started to realize that my cpu is on of my weaker components.
Thank you in advance

The 980 is, of course, a great GPU.....but if it came down to a 970 vs R9 390, I'd definitely go for the 390. The 8Gb of RAM really sells it, and even though for 1080p gaming it isn't entirely necessary (unless you mod your games on a regular basis) what it does do is prepare you for higher resolutions that you may upgrade to in the years to come.

You don't need to get an i7 for gaming.

Also, your CPU isn't one of your weaker components. That CPU is fine for gaming today. What made you think that your CPU was one of your weaker components?

Agree, the gpu is going to be limiting the gaming performance and not the CPU so an OC will have little effect. I have the same CPU paired with a 780 and OC'ing makes no difference in games

If you find yourself twiddling your thumbs while waiting for your computer to complete a task, or it really lags during a game, you need to upgrade something.
You can use windows resource monitor to find out if you CPU is working at maximum while your computer is slow.
If so, a CPU upgrade or an overclock will help.

If not, leave your CPU alone, it is fine.

What kind of gaming do you do? Your i5 is great for most gaming, but when you get into the massive multiplayer's and if you stream, chat, record and do other multi-tasking while gaming.....then the i5 can start to fall behind.

Overall, as most have said, it's a very good CPU...but unless you do the above things, the next upgrade I'd look at is the GPU.

Grab the best you can afford. The PSU is enough to run any single gpu card available. I wouldn't go for anything less than a 970 or a 390 though, as anything under those isn't going to be much of an upgrade.

One simple piece of advice, if it ain't broke, don't fix it.
Wait until you find a game you can't play very well, then upgrade.

If you buy a new GPU now, it will shortly be replaced by a new and better GPU for less money.
