CPU & GPU usage question

Setup:
i7-4790k 4.0 ghz w/ turbo boost (got up to 4.49ghz)
GTX 970 ssc acx 2.0+
1600x900
v-sync turned off in games

To my understanding, it is ideal to have a processor that can utilize the video card 100 percent. On hwmonitor, while playing Rainbow Six Siege and Mad Max, my CPU usage never goes above 86 percent and my GPU usage is at 98 percent.

Now when I had my old GTX 760, the cpu usage (same i7-4790k) was a lot lower and would never go above 60 percent.

So my question is, is this normal? I think it might be, but I can't find any threads on utilization's for the 4790k and the 970.

My temperatures for the CPU at 86 percent utilization is around 56-57 celsius, while at 100 percent load for 20 minutes on prime95 is around 61-62 celsius. My temps for the 970 get up to 76 celsius.

Solution
In HWMontior x64, No core went above 40% that I noticed. UC never went above 25%
Our setups are likely quite different though.
As long as your temps are stable and you're not stuttering, you shouldn't worry too much.

I would assume that you cranked up the details to higher levels after upgrading to the more powerful 970. Seems it would make sense that would require the cpu to do more work processing the added info to feed the gpu.
Let me fire up Mad Max and see what i get real quick. i7 4790k oc'd to 4.6ghz, GTX 980

If your CPU is using less than your GPU, thats a good thing in my Eyes cuz that means @ 86% CPU usage with 98% GPU utilization means that your not bottlenecking anything, you gotta have some Leway or youd have no room for any other processing. so that looks good.

Yeah, I did max out the settings on Rainbow Six when I upgraded but since Mad Max is optimized so darn well, I was able to use max settings with the 760, so therefore the settings on Mad Max remained the same. Tell me what you get

Lol 40%, that's a difference if I ever seen one. I should mention I was using the task manager/resource monitor to analyze the cpu usage. That being said, it's weird for me how you never exceeded 40 percent utilization while paired with a 980. That's about what I was getting when I had my old 760 in my system. Did you just have it on the menu screen or did you drive around a little bit?

Edit: It seems the v-sync on/off makes a huge difference. I was reading on the Ubisoft forums that the guys 4770k was getting around 70-80 percent with v-sync off, and when he turned it on it dropped to 45 percent. Thanks for the replies

I drove around a little, crashed the car. Tried to spin around a bit. With task manager it never went above 30%, I must add.
Only thing I have turned off is motion blur.
My games are on SSDs, 16gbs of 2133 ddr3, might come into play as well.

That and that you have v-sync turned on I would think. Oh, another thing, doing donuts tends to work best with the Ultimate Big Chief V8. Haha, thanks for the help dude
