Hey guys,
Recently I have been experiencing some seemingly random restarts of my computer whenever I am playing games. It happens in most games, but they seem to happen at random intervals. Sometimes I will play a heavily demanding game for 10-15 minutes and it will restart and other times I can play those games for hours and then when I switch to a much less demanding game it will shut down. So far I have tried replacing my psu, stress testing my GPU and CPU (with no restarts), monitoring temps (nothing high enough to cause a restart) and completing the windows memory test, with no results and I have even moved my OS to an SSD and downgraded back to Windows 7.
Here is my current build:
CPU: Intel Core i7-4790K 4.0GHz Quad-Core Processor
CPU Cooler: Corsair H100i 77.0 CFM Liquid CPU Cooler
Mobo: Asus MAXIMUS VII GENE Micro ATX LGA1150 Motherboard
RAM: Corsair Vengeance Pro 32GB (4 x 8GB) DDR3-2400 Memory
HDD: Western Digital BLACK SERIES 4TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive
GPU: MSI GeForce GTX 970 4GB Twin Frozr V Video Card
Case: Corsair 350D Window MicroATX Mid Tower Case
PSU: Corsair RM750i
OS: Was Windows 10 now Windows 7 Home Premium (problem still persists)

This has been happening for over a month now and I just can't find a solution so I was hoping that somebody on here would be able to help me.
Thank you for your time :)

Ok, I did the memory test and there were no problems detected.
I will do a stress test now

Just did a stress test for 10 minutes and it didn't restart.

I know where to find the event viewer, just not where to find the reason for shutdown

Hi. Sorry for hijacking your tread, but I have the same problem.

Pc restart under load without warning. For example, while playing gra v with maxed settings, or while doing prime95 test. Doesn't restart while doing 3dmark benchmark.
Here's my spec.
Amd fx 6200 (old cpu, never overclocked )
Gigabyte ga-990 fxa ud3 motherboard old
Amd fury x, new
4x4gb vengeance 1600 (running at 1333) old
Corsair h80i gt cpu cooling. New
EVGA 220-g2 850 w Gold psu.

Here's my findings so far.
I did the memtest- no errors
Replaced PSU from corsair 750 bronze to EVGA 850 gold.
The cpu temps under load are around 45 degrees.

I read somewhere that the memory ram may be defective, even though the memtest doesn't show any errors so I'm going to test them stick by stick.

Hey I have the same exact cpu and gpu and problem. But I fixed it myself after buckets of thinking and tears.
K now this worked for me dunno bout you but this is my method sorry if it doesn't work.
First thing is backup all your programs that you want let's say games applications steamfolders movies photos every thing you want on an external hardrive then reset Windows and copy back all your backed up data and u should be good to go. Plz tell me if I helped

Did you ever find a solution to this? My desktop has started to do it again despite replacing my motherboard, ram and cpu.

Hello there, sorry to be bringing back a somewhat old thread, but I have been having the same problem for over a month now. First, it started with my PC not booting into windows and my computer was making a weird grinding noise. I thought it was the hard drive but I had realized it was a case fan later on. So, I bought an ssd and put windows ten onto it. Everything was swell until a week later when my PC randomly restarted itself for no reason, the thing it did before I got an ssd. So I took it over to this store called Fry's Electronics, and a few days later they "fixed it". Brought it back home and turned my PC on. It froze once it got to the desktop. So, brought it back over there and the new wireless LAN card they installed, (they replaced the old one because supposedly that was causing the issue) was actually causing the problem. For some reason, a PCI-E lan card in my PC seems to not make my PC work. So the guy decided to try one that is USB 3.0. All worked swell and I brought my PC back home. Everything worked fine. Until over a week ago when I started having problems again. At this point, is it windows ten? Because like I said, I put windows ten onto a BRAND NEW SSD and still had the same problem as before. The wireless lan card thing doesn't matter now because my PC is still doing it. Sometimes, my PC will restart while playing a game or it will BSOD when I am listening to music on YouTube on Firefox. What other could it be? The PSU? Something with the motherboard? Did the lan card mess something up with windows ten? Driver problems? I don't know, but I am really done with windows ten and their crap support. Gonna go with Windows Seven Home Premium until they officially end support for it in 2020.
