I'm just a normal gamer that often uses Skype and team speak for CS-GO and such but recently i upgraded and have built a PC, however, the mic in my headset doesn't work anymore despite working on laptop :(

PC parts list:

Things i have tried/guessed that may or may not be causing this problem:

Need a sound-card however told i didn't need one to use headset/mic

I built the computer wrong and the motherboard/cases audio slots have messed up

The headset is not compatible as it's an xbox one mic http://www.amazon.co.uk/Turtle-Beach-Amplified-Headset/dp/B00KSVXSZU/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1453065747&sr=8-4&keywords=xbox+one+headset

Ive researched and might need an audio jack splitter from single to double

Messed around with the playback settings for days

messed around with Skype/team-speak settings for days

I bought speakers and have plugged my headset into them however the mic doesn't work still

P.S can i even use the built in mic if i plug it into my speakers

Solution
Check that windows recognized the device. Right click the volume button on tray and click recording devices. Make sure it shows up. Make sure you are plugging into a mic jack and not an audio jack. Make sure you are plunging into one that is connected to mobo. Make sure the jack works. Make sure the device is set to default in Windows, can be found in right click tray and set as default.

Yes to what Ryan said. You should get the visual of the green bars fluctuating if it is working correctly. Likely just a matter of plugging into the right spot of verifying it in the sound system when you do plug it in correctly.

Not sure about the plan for how to plug them in, but when I play online with friends I often put my webcam on my monitor to pick up audio (as my mic) but then use my home theater setup for my own audio. So yes I think you can listen to your speakers and use your headset mic, but I'm not sure about your exact plug in setup process.
