i have 4 sticks of ddr3 memory all 1600mhz. 2 sticks are the same and they are hyper x fury ram sticks 8gb each. the other ram stick is a 4gb stick at 1600mhz, and it is by crucial. my last memory stick is another 4gb but it doesnt say which manufacturer it came from on cpuz. will this setup negatively impact my gaming performance because ive recently been dealing with game stutters in DayZ SA and some fps drops frequently.

Specs:
i7 4790k
gtx 780 reference oced
24gb ddr3 1600mhz
h97-d3h gigabyte
corsair h60 watercooling
seasonic 750w 80+ gold

It is ok if it works right. Mixing memory kits is never guaranteed to work, so it isn't recommended unless you already have the sticks and just want to give it a shot.

Mixing sticks of different capacities will have a negative impact on performance depending on how much RAM is in use. However, it shouldn't be noticeable in games because games are generally not very sensitive to memory performance. Considering the fact that at least the first 16GB should run full speed since there is at least 4GB on each of four sticks, the odd memory configuration should not be a problem at all in games. Only the last 8GB runs slower and even then not by much since its dual-channel.

However, since mixing RAM kits can cause the modules to run at slower...

However, since mixing RAM kits can cause the modules to run at slower specs than they are rated by default, it can lower performance if you don't make sure they are running properly. Sometimes some of the timings will need to be loosened a bit or the voltage may need a slight bump for their rated frequency to work because the extra modules put more strain on the memory controller than the kits were individually meant to. Use CPU-Z or another such program to verify the frequency and timings of the RAM and you can choose to adjust accordingly. Still, like before, memory performance tends to have only a minor impact on game performance nowadays, so this might not even matter.

okay i have found my solution. taking out the 2 4gb ddr3 1600mhz sticks of ram that were not the same company and leaving my other 2 sticks of the same exact 8gb ddr3 1600mhz hyper x fury sticks in made my stuttering and fps drops almost completely stop. i said "almost" because dayz is in alpha and it is buggy and is not well optimized. frame rate drops still occur but not often at all anymore. only when i am rendering in a city or something big in the game and then it goes from 35fps down to like 3fps and then back up to 35fps. i think its well worth just having 16gb ram instead of 24gb. i didnt really need 24gb of ram for gaming anyway because thats really overkill

If you have a thought that maybe the stuttering is still ram related, in bios increase the dram voltage 0.005v or the next voltage setting above current. It'll probably mean taking the setting off auto. If that has no affect you could also try relaxing the timings, from 9-9-9-24 1T to 9-10-9-27 1T for example.

hmmm. well i have overclocked my i7 4790k to 4.7ghz and im not sure if that overclocked the ram automatically. unless i have to manually do it myself. shockingly i have been running a whole month stable with 1.2v only with the 4.7ghz overclock. do you think that fps can fluctuate when cpu frequency and ram frequency wont match?

CPU frequency is not tied to memory frequency. This has not been a problem since the memory controller was put on the CPU die instead of in the chipset with the FSB. You don't need to worry about having an ideal ratio of their frequencies.

Overclocking the CPU via multiplier only overclocks the CPU, not the memory. BCLK overclocking does impact the memory and almost everything else, but you couldn't have done much of that since overclocking the BCLK overclocks the PCIe bus and that would just crash at anything over a few percent more than stock 100MHz.
