Something causing coil whine on every graphics card I put in the system

Okay so I'm new here at Tom's.

I've had 3 graphics card in my system all of which has failed in some way. My first graphics card (MSI 780) broke down and stopped working completely after nearly a year of use, I RMA'd it and got money in return. Then I upgraded to EVGA SC 980, and after using it for a while I noticed that I had a whining noise coming from the rig. At first I thought it was some of the hard drives. Unplugged them and booted up, the noise was still there. And I investigated further to found out that it was my almost brand new graphics card. So I returned that too and got a new one. But damnit, that didn't help. Something caused that graphics card to coil whine as well. So I was standing there completely shocked and frustrated.

Do anyone of you have any idea of what can be the reason behind that my graphic cards gets coil whine? And does the graphics card permanently have coil whine after it has it the first time?

Specs: Corsair CX750M, MSI gaming 5, 8GB ADATA RAM, i5 4690K

I am very thankful of any replies, thanks in advance!

Could be the power supply. The Corsair CX series is known to not be very high quality. I bought a CX750 before I knew better too.

It worked fine with my old Radeon 7850 but when I upgraded to two GTX 970s in SLI I got terrible coil whine. I replaced the CX750 with an EVGA G2 Supernova 850W gold certified power supply my coil whine problem completely went away.

So no more coil whine if I upgrade to a high end psu?

Ok, I will try and buy a better power supply. Because if I RMA my corsair one, they'll problably not find any wrong with it. And I only have to pay for them not finding any fault with it.

Okay, I've picked the new PSU. Most of the coilwhine went away, now instead, there's a kind of buzzing noise that sounds like it's from the fans. Should I RMA the videocard?

That depends on what is causing the noise. If it's just the fans spinning it's normal to be able to hear them under load. If it's still less extreme coil whine it's not actually harmful to your PC. It's just an annoyance.

It could also be something inside the PC making contact with a fan while it spins. A friend of mine built his own PC for the first time and it sounded terrible. He asked me to take a look at it and his aftermarket cooler power cable had a tag on it that was hitting the case fan blades. I cut the tag off and the problem was solved.

I would guess that your PC is probably fine but without hearing the noise for myself I couldn't say for sure.

I don't know really, it bothers me a lot and it just sounds abnormal. But the coilwhine is completely gone it seems.
