Hi,

Im building a new pc slowly and im starting from the beginning.(Buy a case, Then a processor, etc) I was wanting to know what was good for motherboards these days since I
havnt really been keeping up on current trends. I am a heavy gamer if that helps(I figure 16gb of ram is all im ever gonna need. I think 32gb is over kill in my situation) If it also helps I plan on getting a Nvidia GTX 970(If I can find a decent price on a GTX 980 on ebay im going with that)
Ty for any suggestions

Solution
I'd look to the 6600K, and pair it with the Z170-A or Progaming from Asus, a bit more costwise and can move up to the Hero (that's what I decided on), and pair it up with 16GB 2x8GB 2666 or better DRAM, best DDR4 I've used on Skylake is the GSkill Trident Z and their Ripjaws Z. The Corsair LPX and Adata's XPG Z1 are also good, not quite as strong as far as OC headroom

Thats a awesome build renigadecrew. Only thing I would avoid is the Windforce GTX 970 as I don't care for those huge 3 fan cards.
As for my budget, I haven't set one. I have a long term goal in mind. I want a pc that will last at least thru this gen if not at least the next one. I also have a few things I can bring over from my other build to like my 850w PSU that is fairly new.

I would go with an EVGA card then, its $350 with $319 after rebate

If rebates are not your thing then this is the same card just not Super Super Clocked

As for a budget I think that would be the most long lasting. I have a similar build myself

Ok ty renigadecrew. Do you think I would need a i7 maybe? Or is that wasted power?(Ive heard i7 processors are good for like video editing and doing things with videos but if your a gamer you most likely wont ever need a i7)

I honestly don't think skylake is a big deal, I game and edit and I run a 4790k and its fine. But if you aren't ever gonna edit videos or stuff like that you will be fine with an i5
