I am going to build my first pc and I was wondering if these parts would all work together. I am going to use it for heavy gaming (GTA V, Fallout 4, Battlefield 4, etc.) and schoolwork/productivity. Any criticism or suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks!

Add a CPU cooler and overclock later on when the 6400 starts lagging in games.

If you're going to overclock, you should get a K processor. TBH, getting a Z170 motherboard especially with a non-K CPU is a waste of money. non-K CPUs aren't made to overclock well (hence why Intel decides not to make them K CPUs), and an H110 can be $40 cheaper than a Z170.

you can overclock a non k cpu with skylake

You won't be able to get as high of an overclock.

A loophole in the design of Skylake CPUs allows motherboard manufacturers to enable BCLK overclocking on locked CPUs. ASRock has been the first to implement this through BIOS updates for it's Z170 motherboards that includes the Sky OC utility, hence the board.

You won't be able to get as high of an overclock.

I just helped another member OC a 6500 to 4.0GHz. He just wanted to try out overclocking and didn't want to push it. Eurogamer pushed the 6500 to 4.51GHz. A member of Overclocking.Guide got his 6400 to 4.725GHz (Over 2GHz over stock). All on voltages less than 1.4V (Which is the reccommended voltage for normal use on Skylake CPUs) and were stable under stress testing. Your point?
