Hi currently building a new PC for gaming and can't decide between these three processors:

I7 6700K (£300)
I7 6700 (£255)
I5 6600K (£199)

Originally I was not planning on overclocking so I switched the motherboard I was after from the Z170A M7 to the H170A M3 Which saved around £80. I was also after the i7 6700k so it could last me a while, then I decided to look for a cheaper option finding the I7 6700 then the I5 6600K.

I thought if I was to go for the I7 6700 I may aswell spend the extra £45 for the 6700K in case I changed my mind about overclocking. Further into researching there does not seem to be a lot of difference at all between the 6600K and the 6700 so again that is pushing me towards the 6700k rather than the 6700.

The build will just be for gaming so my question is the i7 worth the difference in price or am I better off saving £100 and getting the I5 and will the i5 still suffice for max settings on new releases?

Solution
The i7 range has never been recommended for gaming. The i5 processors are sufficient. In general, the K-series processors are only different in that they can be overclocked. Sometimes they have a marginal increase in frequency (speed) over the equivalent non-K processor.

You can get full details at ark.intel.com . For instance: http://ark.intel.com/products/88191/Intel-Core-i5-6600K-Processor-6M-Cache-up-to-3_90-GHz

If you want, add your 3 choices to a comparison list on the ark site and do a side-by-side comparison.

Solution
Since the locked Skylake CPU's can now be overclocked, another option is to go with an i5 6400/6500/6600.

I dont agree with that statement of i7 isnt recommended for gaming. In my testing the i7 ran a bit better. I use to be the one to think to "i7 isnt recommended for gaming untill i bought one and lets say ill never go back to a i5"

They are solid cpus for gaming and they will get the job done BUT there is noticable performance difference between the 2 ..With games becoming muti core such as fallout 4,GTA 5 and more others the difference shows..
