Problems with HDMI connection to LCD tv being used as monitor

I plugged in hdmi cable to lcd tv which I am using as sole monitor. will work fine with vga cable.. when I plug in hdmi the apps which are open disappear can right click on icons in taskbar but cant get anything to open

cursor moves around on screen when I move mouse

I have exactly the same problem... I removed the VGa and still same issues..can't see the icons on desktop can't pop up no windows from the bar...any ideas? suggestions?
