High watt psu for next gen graphics cards.

My xfx 500 watt is too loud.
I'm considering getting fanless 520 watt http://www.ebay.ca/itm/221980219697

But the next gen graphics cards are coming out and I'm holding off on getting one till they come out some time after june. I have no idea what the power requirements could be. Apparently they have twice the transistors.

should I just go with the fanless until I find out how much power I need or should I go with something with more watts that is also quiet.

it should have a big quiet fan that only spins up when it has to.

I'm gonna buy something comporable to the gtx 980

One of the major improvements coming in next-gen GPUs is excellent power - performance ratios. Nvidia's Pascal architecture is supposed to have some extremely low wattage requirements, so if I were you I wouldn't be too worried.

I would say it is a very safe bet to assume that whatever wattage a GPU needs now, you can expect its replacement (so from 980 to '1080') to need the same or less.

They will have more transistors for sure but they are going to be on a smaller process and therefore should be more efficient.
Don't look at my system and think you need a 1350w PSU, its one I had leftover from a triple crossfire bitcoin rig a while back.

However, I believe in having a PSU that gives plenty of headroom. I would much rather go high on the wattage and never get close to stressing it out than to cut it close on wattage and run it close to its limits.
I don't have experience with fanless solutions but I am familiar with silverstone power supply and they are generally high quality. I thought about a fanless for my HTPC but just couldn't bring myself to trust it. The platinum rating is nice though.

I would go 650-750, with a quiet fan and at least a gold rating. In my opinion.

The 520Watt Nightjar would easily power a Geforce 980, unless the rest of your PC was drawing unusually high amounts of power. Thing with a fanless PSU is that the rest of the case does have to have good cooling, a fanless PSU can keep itself cool so long as other components in the PC aren't cooking it (say, a 125 Watt CPU dumping hot air directly under)

What about a semi passive PSU? If I were buying myself a new PSU today I'd be buying a Superflower Leadex Platinum.
