The cost of the i5 4690k has been increasing in price recently. Once a new generation comes out like skylake does Intel stop production of pre gen chips? I'll keep short and stop there

Solution

They were still making them back in November when I bought mine, so I don't think they have stopped just yet. They are very popular CPUs, since they aren't too expensive and offer really good performance for the majority of users. It is very possible that with Skylake's high demand, they have lowered the production, causing a shift in the Demand/Offer balance. It's also worth noting that many resellers were putting them on sale during December, so if they are back to the original price, you might find them expensive.

unsure. Generally Intel does shut down there old fabs quickly once a new fab (Skylake) comes online as they want people to buy the shinny new one not a discounted but still nearly as good old one. But with this new fab they've had all sorts of production problems so I really wouldn't be surprised if at least some of the Haswell lines stay in active production for awhile. The Skylakes have even run out of stock a few times since their release which has kept the price of Haswell up. So it's hard to tell just from price alone if its because the inventory is finally running out or if there simply aren't enough Skylakes around to meet demand which keeps the Haswell lines in production to compensate.
