I have a Dell XPS435T/9000, Dell BIOS A16, Motherboard Microstar International X501H, RAID 0, JMicron JMB36X Storage Controller, Windows 7 Home Premium, SP1 - all original equipment.
I also have two 1TB HDD, one is a Seagate and the other a Western Digital, both MBR/ATA devices.
I need additional DATA storage (NOT to be a boot disk). There is a physical 3rd HDD bay and an available SATA II connector on the motherboard.
Dell tells me that the 3rd disk is limited to 1TB, but I have found several websites that seem to indicate that this is not accurate.
Can anyone DEFINITIVELY tell me the Max SIZE I can install as the 3rd disk? What about a GPT 3rd disk - that will get around the Windows limitations but what about my hardware limitations?
What about an add on HDD controller for the 3rd disk?
Many Thanks,
Dan
UPDATE:
I installed a 2TB in addition to the already existing two 1TB drives. All went very smoothly.
Does anyone know if there is a total system limitation on HDD space? i.e. could I change out the existing 1TB drives for 2TB drives?
