Question is simple, I have mini display port output in my laptop. Do I need it to convert Display Port or can I use it directly ?

Solution
If your Mini DisplayPort is version 1.2, it should be able to support 4K resolution BUT I don't think there is a single 4K 144 Hz refresh rate display on the market. There was a model showcased at CES 2015, but there are no further details. I'm not sure if you laptop will support only 4K @ 30 Hz or 60 Hz. Your best bet is probably to google the name of your specific laptop along with the words "max" or "top" "resolution".

2560×1600 (WQXGA) in its DisplayPort 1.1a implementation
4096x2160 (4K) in its DisplayPort 1.2 implementation
