Pc: gigabyte 970a ds3p mobo
Fx6300 cpu
Gigabyte r7 260x 2gb oc
8gb 1866mhz ram
Evga 500w psu
Corsair h55 cooler
Bit fenix comrade
Etc

So I tried overclocking my fx 6300 today after installing my liquid cooler but only managed to get to 3.9 ghz. Temps were perfectly fine but whenever I went above this and started a stress test or played a game the system would crash. I think my 500w psu should handle this but I don't know what's causing it to crash. I have the pc plugged into an extension chord and not directly into the wall not sure does that make any difference?? Why is it only stable at 3.9 ghz I should be getting 4.5ghz easy with water Cooling?? Any help would be lovely this is really bugging me now

Solution
have you disabled c1e and cool'n'quiet, svm, hpc, apm and core c6 state ? are you doing cpu voltages yourself or have you set it to extreme auto? try lowering your ram speed to 1333 or 1600 that can help sometimes taking load off your memory controller

here's a video with your cpu and mobo but hes using 2400mhz ram so adjust accordingly https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O5V-h5oab1E

i hope you haven't lost the cpu lotto buddy

no i think i only have cool n quiet disabled, and no i am not touching the voltages as i don't trust myself. ill disable these settings now and see will it work. thank you :)

Ok thats good , get back to me on what you can get , i had an fx8320 a while ago so i cant advise you in the way of overclocking that cpu's voltages but just see what others are using compared to your stock voltages and don't go near or above that , setting your own voltages can be safer than letting the bios do it and best of luck dude

nah didn't work man. I'm using amd overdrive to auto clock the cpu instead up doing it from the bios because it it much easier. I don't think it is anything to do with the cpu i think its another factor. Do you think i have sufficient power with a 500w Psu. Any other ideas??

yeah you're fine im running a i5 4690k at 4.6 with a r9 390 on a 550w psu stable , must be voltages holding you back but oh well an overclock's an overclock , what are you getting from the auto clock? and check your voltages with cpu id to see what your at

sorry for the late reply man. I have been using amd overdrive to overclock and the voltage is 1.2375 v @ 3.9ghz. I Heard that i should up the voltage but i dont want to mess with it incase i screw up my CPU XD

your cpu will be safe to 1.4 , some recommend 1.475 for a safe max 24/7 and they get about 4.4 to 4.6 ghz , why not try 1.35v and bump the multiplier 1 time and test each time , when you bsod turn back the multiplier 1 and test again if all stable start turning down cpu voltage until bsod and increase until stable for optimum cpu freq/voltage ratio, but i do have some reservations about that motherboard and it's overclocking ability , its pointless overclocking when the cpu bumps to 4ghz on it's own or should do with turbo enabled. you should be able to do 4.2 ghz @ 1.25/ 1.30 ok , the metal block behind the i/o panel on your motherboard cools the vrm what controls the voltage for your cpu , just make sure thats not too hot and you are good
