Hello all,

Problem:
Crashes/ Grey (vertical lines) Screen PC freeze just after a flashed screen of typical graphical artifacts. Audio loops as well. Happens randomly in gaming (that is to say, sometimes it stays stable) and after much troubleshooting have been able to replicate the crash by simply closing Furmark (Ungine and Kombustor no crashes during or after)

It all began when I started dual screening a 120hz monitor (LG-24GM77) with an older 60hz monitor(Samsung) and moved from Win8.1 to Win10.
I would be watching a youtube video or playing a game when the 120hz screen (main monitor) would freeze. I would then simply alt-tab, move the mouse over to the 60hz screen and close the frozen application (sometimes I would a recieve a windows message that the display driver has recovered) Note: this is under Catalyst Drivers. I also had a light OC running withing safe parameters, but regardlesss of whether the OC was active or not, the crashes would occur. I used MSI afterburner.

Over the subsequent months the crashes got more frequent and random after I sold the 60hz screen. From then on not occuring on Youtube but only on gaming. Sometimes receiving artifacting on the startup screen after restart or even a BSOD with the infamous atikmdag.sys error. Alt-tabing no longer works either.

Now I am on Crimson Drivers and no longer receive artifacting on startup, but only recieve random crashes/freezes on gaming and after I close Furmark (not during). Once again regardless of OC.

Interesting to note: After a crash and restart my PC sometimes resets the monitor back from native 120Hz to 60Hz, which I have to change manually again. (crash also occurs at 60Hz).

Afterburner/rivatuner and kombuster are now uninstalled. I have run vram tests and other boot memtests (all passed). I have changed all thermal paste and know for sure that it is not a temperature issue. I have logged crashes, no data that gives away an issue directly.

I'm hoping I don't have to replace the card yet :(

Solutions please?

Thanks for your time.

Solution
First thing, try running on Windows 8 again, there are a lot of crashing issues with higher end systems that happen after people install Windows 10.

Test the card in another system, if issue follows the card, you have your answer.
