Problem accessing IP camera from Android app inside LAN only

I have an app called IP Cam Viewer v5.9.5 installed on my LG G4, which is running Lollipop. Since installing a new wireless router at the weekend I am no longer able to access my IP cameras FROM HOME using the app (i.e. from within the same LAN) – this was not a problem before. I can access them from outside my home network (e.g. via 4G) without any problems, so there is no problem with the selected driver for the cameras.

My cameras are Tenvis models, and I use the “Foscam FI8904W” camera type to access them, using the following URL: http://www.mywebsite.com:82. The cameras are also protected with a username and password. I can access the cameras from a web browser on the same phone when I’m at home, so there seems to be no problem with firewalls etc. It’s just the IP Cam Viewer app that is unable to access the cameras from inside the LAN.

Does anyone have any idea why I can access http://www.mywebsite.com:82 from a web browser on my phone when connected to the LAN, but not from the IP Cam Viewer app on the same phone?

The new wireless router is an Asus RT-AC68U, which has a Sky Broadband (ADSL) Hub connected to its WAN port. The Asus router is configured as a DMZ on the Sky Hub, and has port forwarding configured to the cameras. The port forwarding seems to work fine, as I can access all of my cameras when I’m away from home (using either the IP Cam Viewer app or a web browser).

Previously I had all devices connected to the Sky Hub, and did not have any problem accessing my cams from the IP Cam Viewer app. It's only since the introduction of the Asus wireless router that the problems with the app started occurring.

I contacted the developer of the app, but he simply sent me a standard message that he seems to send to anybody having any problems with the app (i.e. it did not refer to my problem, and was more of an FAQ than an answer).

I wonder if it is a DNS issue. Clone one of your cameras and change the URL to your public IP address for a test. That will determine if it is a DNS problem. I use IP Cam Viewer A LOT. I have groups of cameras setup as WAN url and LAN url.

I also wonder why you aren't using the Asus as a WIFI access point on the LAN portion of your network rather than in a DMZ and connected via the WAN port.

I just tried using the external IP address instead of the domain name and got the same error.

I'm using the Asus as a DMZ because it has much much better options for setting up guest networks. In fact the Sky Hub doesn't have a guest network facility at all. I also had problems with devices not being able to connect to the Sky Hub, requiring the Sky Hub to be rebooted to resolve it. The Asus also has alot of network management and monitoring tools which would be less useful if I continued to use the Sky Hub as my internet gateway.
