8GB RAM Stick only gives around 4GB in task manager?

While running a game that is around 1.6GB, my usage is at 50%.

Is that normal? I bought the computer prebuilt and am just wondering if I somehow got scammed.

It shows that I have 8GB installed when I go to the computer's properties, it's just in task manager that seems odd.

Task Manager only shows the amount of RAM that's being used at that time, not how much RAM is installed.

1.6Gb from the game + about 2 or 2.5Gb from Windows = 4Gb (50% of 8Gb)

yeah, the operating system is also taking up ram, as well as anything else you have running. folders you have open, browsers, steam, all kinds of things.
