Ethernet port not being recognised by motherboard. I am using a Wi-Fi extender and it is a TP-LINK AV500 but that works fine. I believe the real problem lies with my motherboard which is a brand new MSI 970 GAMING Motherboard and the ethernet is not being recognised by it.

Solution
Check that the ethernet adapter is enabled and properly configured for your network.

If not a built in ethernet adapter make sure the adapter is securely seated into its slot.

Try a known working ethernet cable with good tight connectors that fit firmly and securely into the ethernet ports.

Then try reinstalling the ethernet adapter drivers.
