I want to be able to play street fighter 5 and i built my system 3 years ago, and was wondering if my system was still up to scratch, i think maybe a 970 might be pushing it?

The recommended specs I see for the CPU regarding Street Fighter V is a Core i5-4690K. The i7 you're running now is a bit older, but I don't think you need to upgrade it currently. If you really want to then I'd think anything for socket LGA1155 will fit, however the OS may not like that particular hardware upgrade and you may have to reinstall.
