my computer was 100% off and while doing something else i hear this loud popping noise and i assume it's my plug in heater, but then smell this overwhelming smell of like... burning plastic, maybe? it was super strong and smelled very mechanical. so i sniffed around and it turns out it was coming from my computer-- most strongly out of the little hole where you can see the fan spinning. now it won't turn on at all.

idk the technical parts about it really because it was given as a gift and built by someone my mom knows. it's basically brand new so i don't see the problem in it being old?

i'll let it sit until i'm back from school and if it works again, i'll just delete this or mark it as solved or w/e. thank you!

Solution
If the PC is completely dead my guess is the PSU (no doubt a dirt cheap one) has blown and needs replacing. If it's covered by a warranty (should be if it's less than a year old) the manufacturer is obliged to replace it free of charge so contact them.

I would say that it is the power supply. And with your system being off at the time it should be a really crappy one. If it is the power supply, thank god because probably everything else is the system is fine.

Take to the dealer or a trusted technician.
