I really wouldn't upgrade a pre built system. They have a ton of parts to replace, you'd be better off buying a new system.

I can give you some tips, if you're tight on cash, I'd go for a low profile R7 240; depending on what CPU you have, an upgrade is most likely needed. look for either an i3/i5, or if that PC runs on LGA 775, go for a core2 quad, perhaps a Q6600 or Q9400 (That's what my first build had)

EDIT: I just looked at the spec sheet, and I guess they use AMD, I'll attempt to see what fits and what doesn't.

If you want to just build a new PC here is a suggestion:PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant

If you want to upgrade:
New PSU- about 40-50 dollars
Phenom II X4 9xx- $50 or so
250GB SSD- $80
GTX 750 Ti- $100
8GB of RAM- $30

I would just get a whole new system though.

Your best option is to build a cheap system. What to recommend really depends on what you plan to do with it later as well. If you do plan to start playing newer games, we need to leave the door open for a better GPU later. For that you need to get a power supply with the right connectors for use later. The extra 15-20$ on a better power supply now saves you the trouble of having to get a whole new 80$ power supply later just to upgrade video.

Have you ever worked on a system, or installed windows?

He can reuse his current OS's Activation Key and install the same OS he used on the new PC.

Exactly. Assuming it isn't windows xp or vista. I would replace it if that's the situation.
