current system is:

PSU: XFX proseries 450w
Graphics card: R7 265
CPU: AMD 6300
Motherboard: Asus m5a78l-m/usb3
Ram: 8 GB, 4x 2GBs
Seagate 1TB and samsung 128GB SSD

I want to upgrade my GPU to 970. I've checked that 450 psu would be able to handle 970 but will the CPU be holding the GPU back or is it all good. any replies would be good.

For now, I only want to upgrade GPU or is my current good enough and I should go for something else?

Solution
Running a 970 on the same board & CPU (albeit fairly heavily over clocked) - at 4.3ghz the 6300 does a grand job.
At stock clocks it'll hold the 970 back a bit.
As long as you're running a 60htz screen its an absolutely viable purchase though IMO.
Your PSU will do but it cutting it close - be sure to stick to a fairly basic clocked model that takes either 2x6 pin or a single 8 pin.
At £230 that's what you're going to get anyway in all honesty.

What's your case model ??

Thanks for the reply,
I don't want to upgrade that much yet, might have to wait a bit before I upgrade a lot of them.

Yep, that seems like a good plan. I would go with an R9 390 if you had a different power supply, but a 450w will NOT cut it.

thanks for the advice. Its a 59 htz monitor, 1280x720. I definely need to upgrade this old monitor to 1080p one. Don't know the case name but very similar to this one, http://www.xtremeshack.com/photos/e5eb70cf.jpg

How much you think i can overclock 6300 with hyper 212 evo cooler.

That's a cm elite model of some sort - they're tight on GPU space - the zotac is incredibly short & takes a twin 6 pin so in all honesty fits the bill for you.
Be aware its massively massively overspecced for 720p mate.
if you use 60htz vsync it'll barely hit 40% load in any game.
I vsync at 1080p & rarely see 70% usage - to me that's a good thing though as it means it'll run incredibly cool & quiet.

Do you already own an evo 212 ??
Its not the best cooler for that board as it needs some vrm airflow. You'll push 4ghz but no more.
I run a Pallas which is the cooler you want , although ocing pulls extra wattage & I'm not surevthat 450w has the reserve.

yeh, I'm already using 212 evo. Currently CPU and GPU hit don't go over 56 C when I play games at their recommended settings.

I looked some 970s up on amazon, some of them are huge, around 35 cm long. R7 265 is 23 cm.
Which of these 970s would require a lot of watts or there is no problem and I choose any of these.

I was liking the Asus strix one. Is there any performance difference/cooling between the two or just same but different brands?
