Hello! I was wondering what a liquid cooler is. I'm very ignorant when it comes to pretty much everything in relation to computer tech. I would also like to know how I would know if I needed to get that rather than an air cooler.

Solution

A liquid cooler is a type of cooler which uses "liquid" instead of "air" to cool you components. They only time you'll be needing one is if you are going to perform extreme overclocks. Otherwise, air coolers are much much more cost effective.

Normally the liquid cooling system (water cooling) is used for CPUs and systems which draw a lot of power consumption and therefore generate more heat. Water cooling usually has more power and its performance is better than the air cooling. Say, for a AMD FX-4300 or a Intel i3-4160 cpu maybe you can use a air cooler. More powerful cpu's such as Intel i5-4690k or AMD FX-8370. Be more power it consumes, the more heat it will generate. Simple as that. Usually, water cooling systems are also more expensive than air coolers. Good luck!
