Hello Tom's Hardware comunity! I'm having problems to take a GPU decision. See, so far I've managed to buy the hardware for my PC with pretty sweet deals, considering that I live in Mexico and my currency is devaluated as f#$"k against the U.S. dollar. This is my set up so far:

Motherboard: Asus X99-A
CPU: i7 5820k
CPU cooler: Scythe Kotetsu
RAM: Crucial Ballistix Sport 8 GB @ 2400 MHz X 2 (16 GB Total)
PSU: EVGA 850w B2 Bronze
HDD: Seagate 1 TB @ 7200 RPM
SSD: Sandisk SSD Plus 240 GB
Case: Phanteks Enthoo Pro

So, even though I had to save for a whole year, I think I've managed to assemble a pretty nice PC so far. With the deals I previously mentioned I have spent (17.50 pesos = 1 U.S. Dollar) around 965 USD. So, the only missing thing is the GPU, I was about to join team red buying an amd r9 390 (Strix), and this is where my boss played me (long story, short story he is an as%&$e) and I could not be able to buy my GPU. (Yeah, my PC has been staring at me since Dicember 26th of last year, Oh god, I think I'm gonna break up in tears). So, with my next pay check I'll be able to buy my R9 390, but I've just read that polaris and pascal are coming to the playground somewhere in the middle of this year and it got me thinking, should I buy the cheapest "get me through the next 6-8 months" GPU (say r9 380, gtx 960, even a gtx 950) and wait to throw everything at the new architectures?

Thanks in advance for helping, being paitient to read all my drama story and for tolerating my "full of mistakes" english!

I would get the good video card now, and skip the first versions of the upcoming generations. Usually the first batch of a new generation are not the best of that generation. Think 7970 > 7970 GHz, or 290 > 390, or 680 > 780, or 980 > 980 Ti.

Good things come to those who wait, and in terms of video cards, patience will be rewarded with faster, more mature GPUs. In the meantime, a 390 or a nice factory overclocked custom GTX 970 will serve you well while waiting for the later revisions of the next generation.

I would say, get a Gigabyte G1 gaming GTX 970 4GB... Hands down a very powerful, and cheaper card. You have every other thing to run this beast. And prices did drop on it. Its around 400 USD mark now, i believe.
It'll run any game on ultra settings. Just make sure your casing can accommodate it, as its a huge card with 3X windforce fans.
