Hi! So, I have a portable usb dongle, which I insert a 3g sim into and it broadcasts wifi signals like a modem which I connect my laptop & phone into.

But my issue arrives here, it allows only 5 devices (and therefore a modem will allow me to connect more if I somehow repeat the signals) and that isn't enough for me at times & at some parts, it doesn't cover all of my house. So here's my thing, I have a spare modem router lying around from when I used to have a broadband connection, and I wanted to know if I can somehow make the Modem repeat the wifi signals broadcasted by the usb dongle.

The thing is, I did something like this before when I actually had a broadband connection....I used two modems, basically one router being a primary and other reconnecting and repeating wifi. I used a ethernet cable to connect the two modems together to make the second router work as a repeater. But here where I have a USB Dongle as the primary source and it cannot connect ethernet cables so I am not sure how will my modem which I will use as secondary will connect to the dongle/the internet. If the modem has a way to receive the USB Dongle's WiFi Signals and re-transmit it, that'll be good.

In effect you want a repeater. The problem is all the so called "range extenders/repeaters" have dependency on a technology call WDS. Even if your USB things supported WDS it would still limit you to 5 mac addresses.

You are going to have to build your own to make this work. A repeater is actually 2 devices. A device to talk to the main router many times called a client-bridge. The second is a AP which is a bridge designed to talk to the end machines. You would have to connect these back tp back.

The extra issue you have is the 5 device limitation so you are going to have to trick the USB device. Instead of a AP you would use a router and plug the client bridge into the wan port.

So buy a client-bridge from something...

So buy a client-bridge from something like ubiquiti or engenous and plug that into a wireless router.
