Hi, I've been looking around a number of websites and cant seem to get an exact answer. I am using a modem/router that is provided by our internet provider. It provides a decent range, however there are still parts of our house that the signal drops to 2 sometimes 1 bar. So would It be better to just buy a dual range router and convert it to an access point or use a dual band range extender?

Any thoughts or help would be great.
Thanks.

I like Asus routers because the firmware has a one-button option to toggle them from router to AP. Just remember to give it a static IP address BEFORE you toggle it.

Yes, i can run a wire back to the main router, any preference on the best router to use as an access point?

All of the screen shots I have seen do. I wouldn't recommend anything beyond AC1900 rated router (AC68U). The AC1900 routers are the price performance sweet spot.
