What are you doing with your computer? Editing? Gaming? What programs/games and what resolution/details are you planning on running at? What does the rest of your system look like?
Thanks

so if i have to play crysis at 40fps on the 980 vs 70+ fps on the 980 ti u think thats a waste?

Yes. Because I am okay with reducing some useless graphic settings and achieve 60fps. At the end of the day, its your choice. Do you want to be that person who has every setting on max, and wastes money on a 980 ti, WHEN, you can achieve 60fps with maybe 1-2 settings set to high instead of ultra. You tell me. Because to me, its a waste. To you it may not.

If you don't wan't to reduce your grpahic settings a bit to have 60fps in crysis with a 980, then get the 980 ti.

Not to sound arrogant or anything, who am I to care what you think are acceptable FPS. It is YOUR PC, and you should be the one who is happy at the end of the day. No one is holding you back. I am pretty sure we have all provided our advice.

If it was me, I'd save the 150$ for something else. Maybe use that saved money to get a pascal GPU when it comes out. That is what I'd do.

Just wanted to add, at 1080, a 980 pulls an average of 65+ FPS.

Good points, and i saw videos where 980 pulls 40 fps. Also, do you thinks its acceptable to get the 980ti that would last me a couple years and in the meantime i save up more money to get the new gen gpus that might not run on pci and prob will be more than 1k so that way i can focus on building my pc to better hold a new gen gpu cuz i doubt my 4790k 16 gb ram 2 tb hdd 800 psu will support next gen pascel

No, that is not worth it.
Graphics cards are going to continue to run on PCIe, what else would they run on? Some new interface that requires entirely new motherboards and architectures to run? What about skylake and Zen that are already released and in progress respectively. It would not be possible to make an interface change like that.
I doubt pascal would cost 1k, it wouldnt make sales.
Your i7 will be more than enough to run next gen graphics cards without a doubt.
