People told me it wasn't possible to play at 4K for under 1500$. I told them they were wrong.

CPU: Intel i5 6500
MOBO: Gigabyte GA-Z170XP-SLI
RAM: Avexir Core Series 16GB
HDD: Seagate Barricuda 1TB
GPU: Zotac GTX 980ti AMP!
Case: NZXT Source 210
PSU: EVGA 600W 80+ Bronze

Check out the completed 1750$ version that includes these parts, Windows 10, a 4K ASUS monitor and a gaming keyboard/mouse bundle from Cooler Master.

Solution
1. You should post this as a discussion not a question.

2. The above build is a very good 2K build , but 4K and your future upgrades are a headache with the choice of components you have taken.

  • The power supply is not sufficient for running SLI 980ti , you will have to upgrade to a 850W so add another 80$ in future.

  • The case is a mid tower with stock cooling , which wont be able to handle so much heat by SLI and CPU at full loads. Add another 50-100$ for cooling solutions, and they still might not cut it, so a new full tower case for 80-100$.

  • your budget seems to be so flexible , 1200$ in title , 1500$ in post and 1750$ in build . But the issue is 2015 games are already giving a hard time to 980Tis in 4k , so if you...

Just to clear up some stuff this is designed to be as budget friendly as possible while delivering the best 4K resolutions. This involved on losing some things like a CPU cooler, a case with a window and a Blu Ray drive, all of which you can add in if you put another 100$ into the build.

Also (I know I'm cluttering this thread) the motherboard I chose because it was budget friendly while still having an upgrade path: Z170 chipset in case you get an i5 6600K or i7 6700K and more importantly SLI support so if you really wanna crank 4K you can add another GTX 980ti.

So your next 980TI is coming more sooner than you expect . So all in all, you are asking for a 2500$ build which has skimped on SSDs and wasting around 200$ for a cheaper start.

  • The devastator combo is a pretty average quality component and the keyboard goes bad too soon. Its a personal preference but i do spend around 10% of the budget for mouse and keyboard. heck mine even cost more than 10% of total budget.
  • And you missed the speakers

Not to mention a low quality power supply as is. Also, you can play 4K on a GTX 950. Lowering settings is not like a scary thing to do ever.

Also, either get an H110 motherboard or a K CPU, and if you do, perhaps some higher frequency RAM. But yeah, not a power supply to run an expensive rig on.
