why 1 and 3? it's different with 2 and 4??

Again, it's a dual channel board.... to experience the advantages of a dual channel board, you need two sticks.

Your MoBo manual will indicate which 2 to use. Each manufacturers does it different and even the same manufacturer will do it different ways on different models. Some do 1st and 3rd from CPU, others do 2nd and forth. Often the pairs go in color coded slots. Most indicate a "preference" for one or the other in the manual.

thank you jack.
BTW, have you heard of anything that a low profile ram would cause pc freeze/dead ??
thank you

thank you, I will do that!!

Well the tall toothy heat sinks have a very specific cooling function .... they are designed to "look cool" and that's about all they do. I only use low profile sticks, unless it's a water cooled box and ya want something bigger to draw the eye.

Whenever I experience any weirdness, I'll run Memtest86+ overnight (12 hours).... while many suggest 1 stick at a time, that's 24 hours and since 95+ % of the time they will both pass i do both. If I get a failure, then I'll test 1 at a time and then each slot ... moist times you'll detect failures in the 1st pass.... even in the 1st 5 minutes but I have had failures after 7 and 9 and my son had one after 11 passes .....

Thank you Jack. If memtest does not pass, that means my ram is bad?
Would this cause the freeze due to a bad ram??

i would personally prefer a 1x8G over 2x4G especially if you only have 2 ram slots, as it doesn't block a slot for future additions. in terms of performance, a 2x4G would only be between 0% and 7% faster than a 1x8G setup for the CPU (might be more significant if using onboard graphics of an AMD APU)

the downside of a 1x8G is that if memtest86 throws up problems, you only have ONE stick to blame and can't do much other than try a new slot. if you have 2x4G, you can swap the stick positions.

thank you for your insight.
My mobo does have 4 slot, but still, use one stick save the slots for future upgrade. Personally, I am fine with either way. To me 8g is probably enough in most of the case, 16g will almost be a future proof to me, since i just dont have that much heavy load to my pc.

Have your heard of Apotop (brand name) ram?

i've probably seen it as i scan through the RAM choices at NCIX.com but i've only ever bought GSkill, Kingston, Corsair, Adata, and (for my server) Crucial. for my old DDR1 and DDR2 stuff, i've got tons of random mixed brands and mismatched sets, so.... if the stuff works, that's the most important thing!
