Is investing into AM3+ worth it? (In this specific scenario)

So, I am looking to make a rather major system upgrade right now, and I would like a little bit of advice. Basically, I am looking into swapping my motherboard, case and CPU all at once. Now, a friend is offering an AMD fx-4100 for 40€. With that, I have about 120€ left for a motherboard, and, if I can, some RAM, although I can wait a couple weeks for that. I am planning on keeping said CPU for a few months to a year tops, then upgrading to a more powerful fx-83xx.
I am basically using the fx-4100 to buy into AM3+, since I don't, and won't, for quite some time, have a big enough budget to swap platforms and get a good CPU on top. I have looked at benchmarks upon benchmarks during the past couple months, to determine where I should spend my money, but can't come up with a final answer. Now, I am addressing this question mostly to people who currently own a system with an AM3+ CPU in it, to whether they are happy, or not, with their purchase, and how it's holding up in today's gaming standards. Also, I would like you to point me to a good motherboard for overclocking, probably the 4100, but also definitely the 83xx in the future, since I will be overclocking.

Note a few things. First off, I am very hesitant to buy another dual core CPU, especially as games, and more importantly, the game(s) I am interested in (only Fallout 4 currently) are shifting more and more towards utilizing all available threads, so a cheap 70€ g3258 to buy into LGA1150 is next to not an option. Secondly, while I can get my hands on an i3-3240, I haven't exactly found too much encouraging information on that. Most people have a "not quite" answer, when I search about that CPU in gaming applications online, but I'll go ahead and ask for myself to have a final answer - is it any good? Keep in mind that I would like to swap platforms, but that's not a necessity. I'll present my reasoning on that later on. Third, I don't want to buy used. Call me preoccupied if you'd like, but I am not in any position, currently, to ignore the risks, however small they might be. I'm making an exception on the 4100, since I'm getting that from a friend, whom I trust, and who will hand it to me personally, and even that, only because I'm swapping it out in a few months time. Note that if I do get the i3 listed above, it will be a more permanent upgrade, since it covers the entirety of my current budget, so, if you answer this question, compare it to an 83xx, not the 4100.

Now, for my reasoning behind swapping platforms: First, I will be re-purposing my current system, not selling or giving away my current CPU. I am only missing a motherboard and CPU to complete the re-purposed system. Second, I am going to crossfire soon-ish, and my card doesn't even have a second PCI-e slot, let alone support x-fire. Although I COULD save up and get a single overall better card, why would I, if I already have one of the cards? Finally, and probably less importantly, looks. I am going to be getting a full tower case in the next couple months, purely for looks, as a midi would suit me fine. I just love the look of a large computer. It wouldn't make much sense to put my mATX board in it, now would it? Shallow, I know, but can you blame me? :p

tl;dr: Is getting a used fx-4100 just as a segue to buy into AM3+ worth it, and how will said 4100 perform, in tandem with the rest of my system? Finally, how much of a performance increase can I expect, compared to my current CPU, from the 4100 and/or an 8350?

Basically, what I'm asking is, would a temporary fx 4100 into fx-83xx for a more permanent solution be better than an LGA1155 i3 3250?

System:
CPU: Intel Pentium G620 @ 2.6 GHz
Graphics: Sapphire r9 270x dual-x 2GB GDDR5
Motherboard: Foxxcon mATX LGA1155 non-oc board (Yet another reason I want to swap it out)
RAM: 4GB DDR3 @ 1333 Hz (Soon to be 8 or 10. Disregard the 4, and assume I have at least 8 for your answers)
PSU: Corsair VS 650 80+ efficiency

Apologies for the long post.
