I decided to turn up my multiplier in my BIOS to give me a frequency of 4.0Ghz. I changed the voltage to adaptive and have been on these settings for a couple hours now whilst monitoring my temperatures. It idles at about 50 and then ramps up to 75+ Fahrenheit when I'm playing games or under load. Bare in mind this is the intel stock cooler.

Is this a safe setting to use daily or should I tone it down a bit.

I know I should get an aftermarket cooler but I have other things I need to buy first that take priority.

With a stock intel cooler you need to leave the cpu at stock speeds and just let it boost when it needs it. Your pushing the limits on the heat for the cpu which is not good.

You ether need to spend the $20-$30 for a cryorig h7 or evo 212 if you want to overclock, or be prepared to spend more money when you damage something.

Stock cooling is generally for stock speeds. You should not raise the cpu voltage unless the cpu needs it to be stable. You could quite possibly get a decent overclock without messing with core voltage which will keep the cpu cooler which is good because the stock cooler is kinda weak. Get an after market cooler if you really want to overclock.
