Hey there,
I have this machine (ASUS BM6835 Board) which came with a pre-installed 8GB RAM. Now I wanted to upgrade another 8GB but the new RAM element is not working.

http://dlcdnet.asus.com/pub/ASUS/Desktop/BM6835/BM6835_Datasheet_E.pdf

I tried several combinations:
- Old 8GB in Slot A1 - working (recognizes 8GB)
- Only New 8GB in Slot A1 - not even booting
- Old 8GB in Slot A1, New 8GB in Slot A2 - not even booting
- Old 8GB in Slot A1, New 8GB in Slot B1 or B2 - working (but only recognizes 8GB, probably my old one)

On the attached image you can find both RAM elements (Old8GB = working is on top)

I am confused, is the new one broken or is it a wrong type of RAM or is there any configuration on the board I am missing... Please help, thanks!

Solution
It has a B75 chipset; only servers with a Xeon or an Opteron and specific server chipsets can use registered ECC DIMM. Such systems usually support 192GB or more of RAM. All you need is a standard 8GB DDR3 memory module; use CPU-Z to check what's installed and order another identical module.

Hello
@Tradesman1
Even if I put in the new one as the single piece without the old one it does not work. So it seems like the new one is not compatible to the board at all. But how can I find out what kind of RAM to buy?

@GhislainG
How can you tell the system does not support registered RAM? Is there an indication somewhere?

Thanks!
