I'm looking to upgrade my old laptop for a little more resource intensive tasks, I've opened the laptop and the CPU is removable, but what CPU should I buy? CPUZ state that I have Socket 988B rPGA. Looking for a mid-tier CPU, nothing too crazy. The CPU that's currently in the laptop is Intel Celeron B810.

Note: This is for a laptop, not desktop!

Solution
first update your bios.
it would be a crap shoot either way as k114 said.
if you wish to gamble I would suggest trying the i3 2308 or the 2312.
same wattage slight speed increase and hyperthreading.
the BIOS may be whitelisted, so while it should work the motherboard will only see predetermined CPU's. I know no way around this if it is.
Toshiba has whitelisted for other components I see no reason they would not for the CPU.

Intel Sandy Bridge

Chipset will not help. All that's going to say is the socket and/or other sandy bridge cpus and none of this means any are compatible with the specific mobo bios. They don't publish cpu support list for laptops. You can try to contact the manufacturer of the laptop or search for other cpus the same laptop model used. The other more common option of laptop cpu upgrades is just try a cpu and hope for the best. You'd want to look for a same tdp but a higher end cpu is still going to create more heat. What are your temps with that cpu?

At idle, it's around 50C, when under load it's usually around 68C.
